Cooper Raiff stars in this too, as Alex, and his performance really rang true.
For anyone who has gone to university and expected that some kind of magic to kick in that transforms you into this coolest person in the room, but then discovers they are just the same awkward person they’ve always been — this movie will hit you in the feels.
It also perfectly navigates that point where an apparent meeting of minds, and seemingly hearts, can dissolve into the emotional equivalent of a hangover. But you’re stuck there, and you have to navigate past that.
I got a little wrong-footed by it, where the film played against type and stereotype, using trope to sleight of hand me into feelings I didn’t expect.
It’s on Mubi at the moment — go check it out.
