I didn’t know the Minecraft movie was directed by the director of Napoleon Dynamite and Gentlemen Broncos. Would that have changed my mind about wanting to see it? Probably not. I had a similar attitude to it as Seth Rogen in The Studio and his Kool Aid movie he had to make.
So, I was wrong.
It had a similar feel to Red One, which I similarly expected nothing from, and which made me laugh, and I cared about the characters, and I just enjoyed the ride.
Best line of the movie was spoken by Jennifer Coolidge — you will know the one I am talking about as soon as you hear it.
Most of the winning formula for this movie was building the thing around Jack Black. It’s kind of like if Jack Black was a place, the Overworld would be it.
Makes me want a sequel to Be Kind Rewind.
Jason Momoa is solid — I like him in these kind of roles.
