Looking Forward: Eddington

Eddington

A stand off between Joaquin Phoenix and Pedro Pascal in a Western by Ari Aster.

That line is packed with so much goodness as a description, because if, like me, you are a fan of each of these men, you know to expect something good. You also know that you have three creative spirits who are willing to go to some extreme places, and that they aren’t going to hold back.

Beau Is Afraid really affected me emotionally, and I thought it was brilliant and different in ways that never felt like they were arbitrary or weird for the sake of just being word.

I am sure Aster is trying to provoke certain feelings with the way he tells his stories, but I think depending on when you see them, and what’s going on in your life, they can hit different, and Aster’s on themes and concerns bump against your own, and that alchemy is triggered that makes you fall in love with a film. My expectations are high.
