The original movie was one of my favourite horror movies, because it didn\’t telegraph the horror. It played it\’s monster straight. The sledgehammer coming down on someone was how the whole movie felt to me. I hope this captures that visceral energy. Horror provides a slantwise way of approaching real horror, and whether this was inspired by Ed Gein or whomever, it allowed us to confront something truly horrific.
