When one sits down to a Nicholas Cage movie one wonders whether they are getting Nick Cage passion project, or Nick Cage filthy lucre project. This feels like the former. I have to admit, when I started watching it I thought we were getting Cage\’s version of John Wick, or something like Red. It isn\’t.
I don\’t want to spoil it for anyone, but I am sure that when you start watching this film, even perhaps when you see the promo for it, you are going to believe that it is one type of movie, and then you will discover it is a different kind of movie.
It has real heart. On some level there are no villains in this movie, there are just damaged people, and this makes it seem truer than some movies that occupy a similar space. You get really drawn into the world of the movie, and it is not one of those that you watch where you are trying to spot the actors or thinking much about how the movie is achieving what it does, because you get really invested in it.
I thought this was going to be like Mandy as well, but instead I got something that really showcased Nicholas Cage at his best. A really enjoyable film.
