It\’s taken me a while to see this, and I find nothing odd in that. Of the Ben Stiller films that are going to make it to the top of my must see list this is not one of the more likely suspects. This is the gentler side of Ben Stiller, and while there is nothing wrong with that, it is a little more mainstream, a little less of a risk-taker, and therefore doesn\’t play to his strengths quite so much and isn\’t as funny.
With a real great comedy of errors the insanity needs to mount and mount and mount and reach the point where you think nothing worse can happen, and then the tension releases – something like Scorcese\’s After Hours.
This moves a long gently with some nice performances, and the set pieces make you smile, but this isn\’t one of those films that you are going to run out and tell your friends that they have to see. It is more one of those things where you tell them if they can find it cheap then its worth a watch.
I will say that I did not begrudge this movie the time it took to watch it, but it didn\’t set my world on fire.
