Television Whitenoise: Blues Clues

Blues Clues

As a dad of a 22 month old boy, I watch a lot of children’s TV. We tend to opt for stuff that is low stimulation in terms of riling him up, and we go instead for something that has a more gentle feel, and which educates him, and teaches him problem solving skills.

Blues Clues is available in both the classic form with Steve, and the more up to date version with Josh. They both bring something a little different to the table.

I just watched an episode with Steve where he was telling a story about a King, and instead of doing some boring straight reading of the story, Steve turned it into an Elvis homage. At the end of the episode he did a version of the Blues Clues song as Elvis, and it rocked. I watched a documentary about Nickelodeon, and Steve was an outside choice that worked out perfectly — he brings a bit of a kid-friendly punk sensibility to the mix, which means the show feels really fresh.

Josh is sweet, and comes off as a real genuine person. He has a pretty good voice, and I enjoy his songs in the show. My son loves him and Steve both, and initially Josh was my go to. My wife found the classic version and started playing that, and now I enjoy playing both for my son.
