I liked this. Nothing new really happening with it, but I liked the characters and the way the story unfolded.
Chloe Sevigny was in these kind of things back in the 90s. But it’s Chloe Sevigny, so if she’s doing her thing and it’s not new it’s still great. Alex Wolff is my favourite character in this — he is seriously drugged up, and a neurotic emotional mess, that manages to kick out Woody Allen levels of anxiety, but to still be endearing.
I’ve watched a few mockumentaries with dysfunctional film crews lately, and the angle and direction emerges pretty quickly with each of them. Based on this I would watch more from this director — the characters have heart; none of them come off as ciphers. It’s entertaining and worthwhile, and charming.
