People Watching: Lung Leg

How the hell can you not be drawn to a character called Lung Leg? I like many people I suppose came to know her through this picture which was used on the cover of Sonic Youth\’s Evol album. As well as this she appeared in You Killed Me First and Fingered directed by Richard Kern; she also appeared in the Butthole Surfer\’s Concubine video and Sonic Youth\’s Death Valley \’69. After a brief relationship with Blixa Bargeld of The Bads Seeds and Einsturzende Neubaten fame she apparently upped and disappeared. From that point onwards the truth fractures — did she go off to become a stripper? Did she flee from a German villain called Ninny intent on spreading communism? She has apparently denied some of this in emails. Her disappearance has been disputed by NY bands that have seen her in San Francisco at their gigs. Whatever the truth it is an interesting story and she is an intriguing character. Hail, Lung Leg!
