I have owned all of the Foundation books, and never read them. I started them, but I found the style very dry, and the spark never caught.
The series looked interesting, and I was fascinated by the idea of Hari Seldon and Psychohistory.
I know that they are supposedly not the most faithful adaptation — and I am interested to learn how at some point, but what I have seen I liked.
Laura Birn is amazing as Demerzel. Watching her thread between Terrence Mann’s Dusk, Cassian Bilton’s Dawn, and Lee Pace’s Day Has been a subtle masterclass in acting. The passage of time and the passing of one iteration of Empire to the next very believable.
Gaal Dornick and Salvor Hardin and Hari Seldon, and their trinity in opposition to Empire is equally well constructed. Jared Harris is a master at straddling likeable and hateful. Lou Llobell’s Gaal comes across as convincingly smart, as does Leah Harvey’s Salvor. The whole cast is stellar. The special effects are never less than convincing, and are quite often exactly what you want for a sci fi show.
I can’t recommend it more highly.
