This syndrome doesn\’t actually require the existence of a brass plaque, but that is the badge of the state. Give someone a title and they suddenly become other than what they were. A boss, no matter how good they are as a person, has some quality conferred upon them when their job title changes. This sets them apart from your common joe and can either turn them into a hitler, the most common effect, or more rarely into a great person who is actually in control. I have met more of the former than the latter. I go to meet my friend for lunch and her lunch gets set back because she is going for lunch with me — a power trip is being experienced. They pay your wage so they own you — this is what their badge does to them. This is only one of many manifestations of the phenomenon. It is often accompanied by the shrinking of reproductive organs which adds further insecurities to an already neurotic mindset.
