Someone once said to me that being altruistic makes you feel good. I smiled and withheld my dictionary corner smugness. As long as the act is not for the pure hit of pleasure you get from seeing another smile then it is as close to altruism as a conscious being is going to get. And that cliche about the thought being there has, if not a grain of truth in it, at least a valid point (man that is probably the same thing) (ok, addled head aside). I did some good deeds today and I honestly was thinking about the people I was doing to for — their happiness was the primary concern; their thanks was a bonus.
