Papadopoulos & Sons by Marcus Markou (2012)

It pays to take a chance on lesser known films that you haven\’t heard of before, because sometimes you find a gem.

This is one of those uniquely British movies, and sure, I know it is about Greeks too, and am not discounting that, but it takes an attitude to multiculturalism that is very British and represents one of the best things about us as a nation.

The cultural aspect is important, but it is also allowed to take something of a backseat while the characters are allowed to live and breathe and not be mere ciphers.

That aside – it is funny, deals with a serious matter too, and takes you through the fall and rise and growth of Harry Papadopoulos. Thankfully, with an ensemble cast, it doesn\’t leave anyone behind … they all grow too.

It\’s fun, it\’s human, and I would definitely recommend it.
