Every single character gets the chance shine here. This week we learn that there is more to Sirkka than was first shown us — that she is not just some shallow hedonist lazing around and thinking of pleasure all day. We see more of the idea that being a Freakangel is a responsibility and requires sacrifice, and given how powerful they are these choices to fulfil simple roles that serve the community say a lot about them.
Ellis seems to be having a lot of fun with the episodic format here; packing a hell of a lot in those six pages, but also using that natural beat between episodes to create tensions, create expectations, feint one way and then run the other. He is taking risks which I think may be something that only this format and frequency of episodes would allow.
The pace is definitely something unique — something different to other webcomics I have read which give you the impression they are purely thinking of getting into print and not so much playing to the strengths of the medium. I understand that something of this is the fact that webcomics have for a large proportion of people been something they have utilised as a way to get their foot in the door with the industry, something Ellis obviously doesn\’t have to do. He has the luxury to go wherever he wants with this but he definitely tailors stories to formats and thinks about structure a hell of a lot more than most writers. I think a lot of people orbiting around this site and the community that was built around it can see that there is something of history in the making about this endeavour. From the art to the story telling it is something to fall in love with for definite.
