Comicsphere: Mister Wonderful by Daniel Clowes
So, I just read Mister Wonderful by Daniel Clowes and I have to say I am never disappointed by him. I am sure that even without his name on a piece you would be able to tell who it was by – they definitely have a unique flavour. I find myself feeling at first sympathy and then identifying with his characters and then you kind of worry about why you might be identifying with them – a very appropriate response, I think.
They have an atmosphere akin to those slow, wryly comic indie films by people like Jim Jarmusch, Richard Linklater and Todd Solondz. Human, simple and able to be both universal and strangely specific. They sometimes make you feel awkard in a way Larry David and The Office both achieve. His stories can be cathartic, entertaining and amusing. Check it out here.
